Motor Insurance
Motor Insurance provides protection against financial loss arising out of physical damage or bodily harm resulting from a traffic collisions. It also covers the insured against liability arising from road incidents.
Motor Insurance is offered in two broad categories:
- Third Party Only
- Comprehensive Cover
Third Party Only insurance provides protection arising out of traffic incidents which result in third party bodily injury and property damage. This is the cheapest level of cover and the minimum level of cover required under Kenyan law. Third Party Fire & Theft is not generally offered by Kenyan insurers but is normally on proposal forms.
Comprehensive Insurance provides protection against accidental loss or damage to personal private vehicles, including the standard accessories and spare parts, as well as cover against legal liability to third parties.
Comprehensive insurance also covers loss and or damaged arising from accidental own damage, theft, fire, bodily injury and or death to third parties and property damage.
Free Cover Limits, up to to specified limits may be included with respect to Windscreen and the Entertainment System, will be included in the policy.
Common riders may or may not include:
- Excess Protector
- Political Violence & Terrorism Cover
- Ambulance Costs
- Hospitalisation expenses
- Courtesy Car
Let's distinguish between Private Motor Insurance and Commercial Vehicle Insurance.
Please note that the driver and passengers in the vehicle are not covered by the insurance except by an additional rider or a separate Personal Accident Cover.

Motor Insurance also covers Passenger Service Vehicles (PSVs) by the payment of an additional premium to cover Passenger Legal Liability:
PSV Taxi Insurance includes:
- PSV Chauffeur Insurance is generally issued to PSVs operating as Digital Taxis
- PSV Taxi Insurance
Tourist Service Vehicles (TSV) vehicles are vehicles which ferry tourists, both local and domestic. They are covered under PSV insurance.
Motorcycle Insurance are classified under "Private" and "Motorcycle BodaBoda" insurance cover.
